And now for something completely different. (Story #35)
I – Do you have a book here called Zapatilla Deportiva: Primer?
Cashier: Yes, I believe we have a copy. The others, well, they just sold like hotcakes, ma’am!
I: Well, I’d like that last one. Here you go.
C: Here you go. (ZD and AM enter)
I: Thanks. Hey, who is that? One of the employees or something?
C: I…I don’t think so, er, ma’am.
I: Ah, well. (Goes up to ZD) Hello, what’s your name?
ZD: Za – why?
I: You just look a lot like my character in this book. (holds up book)
ZD: (Takes book, long pause) Ohh myy. (Looks straight at I) Why did you write a book about me? I may seem interesting at times (those times with rock stars and robots for servants) and also entirely insane (all those man-eating sharks around the house…) but I promise you, I’m perfectly normal. It was awfully kind, though. Al! Meet our new best friend!
AM: Yes, dear.
I: (Standing there gaping) I have to be going now. (While running out, quietly to herself) Going mad, that is…
(ZD and AM exchange thoughtful look)
