Off The Waffle
Off the Waffle is an ultra-trendy little waffle place in a strip mall of deliciousness in Eugene which also houses Metropol. It’s at 2540 Willamette St. Eugene, OR 97405. Hours are 7 am – 7 pm Sunday to Thursday, 7 am – 11 pm Friday and Saturday. The decoration is very hipster, a wall full of zany drawings made by customers. It has signs with the mascot – an orange afroed guy which, of course, is what the owners look like. The place is tiny, but perfect if you just want to grab a waffle. Unfortunately, the most delicious waffles with toppings are the ones you cannot grab and go. You must bus your table and the water isn’t very cold, but that’s okay; the waffles make up for it.
On to the food! The waffles themselves are very, very delicious. They’re not too sweet and just crunchy enough. However, I think you’re crazy if you just get a plain waffle. The toppings equal in deliciousness to the waffles, and when combined you get almost-perfection. My favorites are The Overachiever (chocolate and banana = mmm) and, of course, the Self-Fufilling Prophecy (egg, maple syrup, and bacon). I have not tried the non-waffle options, but what’s the point? The waffles are the real draw, and you don’t get anything you can’t get from another breakfast place with those.
In summary, Off the Waffle is a great place to grab some breakfast or dessert that’s very deliciously different. Go there and enjoy!
